BY LUKE LEONARD ANCHOR LAUREN ZIMA Android's mobile platform sales are skyrocketing. Chief Andy Rubin is even hoping to increase sales of Android tablets twofold in 2012. Google Mobile Blog published an article with the figures. "With a year-on-year growth rate of more than 250%, 850000 new Android devices are activated each day, jetting the total number of Android devices around the world past 300 million. These numbers are a testament to the break-neck speed of innovation that defines the Android ecosystem." The competitive gap between Android and Apple's iOS is gradually closing. With such a fast-growing number of activated devices each day, Inside Mobile App is expecting tables to turn. "... we might see a crossover point sometime during this or the next quarter when Google's Android platform will have more activations to date than Apple has in iOS device sales." Android's footprint in the tablet market however, CNET says, is trailing well behind Apple. CNET collaborated! some statistics indicating just how far behind Android is ... "During the fourth quarter of 2011 alone, Apple sold over 15 million iPads worldwide. In all of 2011, the company sold about 40 million iPads.
